Stars in Paradise: Pursuing Excellence
Of all of the events we put on during the year, there is no doubt that our annual team member award ceremony is the most anticipated. The annual awards ceremony is the grand culmination of our quarterly awards ceremonies...the big leagues... where we award our best and brightest stars for their stellar performance.
On February 20, the board, management and specially invited guests - Hon. Emma Hippolyte, Minister for Commerce, Business Development and Consumer Affairs and Hon. Dr. James Fletcher, Minister for the Public Service, Information and Broadcasting - gathered to celebrate with the Bay Gardens Resorts team.
Over eighty awards were handed out in a range of categories from Best Smile to Rising Stars and Most Nominated (by guests) to the Green Award. A special Lifetime Achievement Award was also handed out to Shirley Alphonse from the Bay Gardens Hotel’s Kitchen Department for over 20 years or outstanding Service.
We want to thank our entire team for their unwavering dedication; their daily contributions to the success of Bay Gardens Resorts will never be allowed to go unnoticed.

2015 St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival Line-up Announced
The 24th edition of the best party in the Caribbean, The St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, promises to deliver on what it’s become renowned for: an eclectic fusion of great international music in some of the most stunning locations. The festival has also become a showcase for St. Lucian arts, culture and phenomenal local cuisine.
The eagerly anticipated line-up of artists was revealed earlier this month. Headlining the event is award-winning multiplatinum artiste, Robin Thicke. Thicke will be joined by hip-hop chart topper, Flo Rida and music legends Jimmy Cliff, John Secada, Beres Hammond and many more.
The festival is slated to begin in just over 60 days, from April 30 to May 10, 2015. If you want to be part of this party, book now to secure your accommodation. Just for these dates, we’re offering free breakfast for two daily plus free water taxi rides to and from the main stage events at Pigeon Island (only a 5 minute boat ride away) - a minimum five night stay is required to qualify.

Highlights of Valentine’s Day
We pulled off yet another great event last month - Valentine’s Day Dinner. Both the Bay Gardens Hotel and the Bay Gardens Beach Resort offered up something special for our patrons on the big day.
The Bay Gardens Hotel dazzled with their á la carte menu and the big hit of the night, their sushi bar. The personalized service made for an even more romantic night, not forgetting the soothing sounds of our clarinet player. He visited each table serenading diners through the night.
In true ‘under the stars’ fashion, the Bay Gardens Beach Resort offered an extensive buffet right on beautiful Reduit Beach. The band Energy provided the right tunes and there was even a mini fashion show featuring the Ms. Independence - St. Lucia contestants.

A Successful Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Event
Our Executive Director, Sanovnik Destang, and General Manager of the Bay Gardens Beach Resort, Berthia Parle, recently attended the CHTA’s Caribbean Travel Marketplace in Puerto Rico.
The two-day trade show is billed by the CHTA as the Caribbean’s largest and most important marketing event. It gives tourism suppliers from the Caribbean (like us) the opportunity to interface with wholesalers from around the world. When this happens, you benefit immensely because we get to learn, discuss and plan a number of innovations, strategies and concepts all related to our consumers.
Employee Profile: Shirley Alfred
As we mentioned earlier, Shirley Alfred joined an exclusive list of special employees when she received the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award at the 2015 Bay Gardens Resorts Annual Awards. This award is presented every year to team members who have consistently provided Bay Gardens Resorts with their longstanding service.
Shirley’s story with us started way before we ever conceived the idea of ‘Bay Gardens Resorts’, back in 1995. At that time, the Bay Gardens Hotel had just opened its doors and we were all trying to achieve huge goals and create a reputation for ourselves. She started off as a cook, and as she explains it every single day brings a new experience for her. She was eager to learn and saw her job as an ongoing training experience for what she envisioned to be her career.
Twenty years down the line, Shirley is no longer the green cook, but is now the Sous Chef at the Bay Gardens Hotel - second in command to the Executive Chef. The food coming out of Spices Restaurant continues to get excellent reviews for flavour and quality.
As is often the case with our team members, her favourite part of the job is meeting new people - she often steps out into the restaurant to say a friendly hello to diners. The opportunity to bask in the cultures of others is something she truly enjoys.
We are deeply thankful for the 20 years of service Shirley has given to us at Bay Gardens Resorts; she’s truly part of our family!
